THE LUANG SAY RESIDENCE REVIEW

Luxury in Luang Prabang, Laos.

The Luang Say Residence is a gorgeous colonial style boutique resort that offers 5-star luxurious comforts and amenities. Blending old school elegance with modern charm makes it unique against every other hotel we have stayed at during our travels.

We recently had the pleasure of a one night stay in this gorgeous resort and can say we absolutely made the most of the many facilities they had on offer. Often we don’t quite get the time to sit back and relax completely on our fast-paced travel schedule, but this place made us feel like we were on holiday!

With fruit trees, herb gardens, lily ponds, and other beautiful trees/plants sprawled throughout this resort, we definitely enjoyed the feel of nature it provided.

THE LOCATION

Only 10 minutes away from the airport and 5 minutes from downtown, this luxurious hotel is centrally located and only a short drive from the main attractions and eateries. They even provide a free shuttle bus throughout the day for your use to get to and from town. Although it is still considered to be in the city, it surely makes you feel like you are in some tropical forest with their beautiful gardens and jungle-like walkways.

ROOMS

Throughout the tropical one hectare garden lies only 24 luxury suites including 20 Pioneer Suites and 4 Explorateur Suites.

We made home in one of the Pioneer suits overlooking the pool and poolside restaurant for just one night, and did not want to leave! With a four-poster wooden bed draped by netting, a comfortable and inviting lounge corner, spacious double sink bathroom, and working desk this room sure had more than everything you needed. The room absolutely boasted of elegance and antique style.

A balcony with outdoor seating provided us with a lovely space to sit back and relax while drinking a coffee while the sun rose.

STAFF

Warm greetings and soft smiles. Whether it was the hard-working gardener or the General Manager, we were consistently made to feel welcome throughout our short stay. Not once did we walk past a staff member without a kind “Hello” or “How are you today” accompanied by a genuine smile.

During our meals they would go above and beyond to ensure we enjoyed the whole experience, topping up our glasses with cold water, explaining the foreign food and checking all was okay. Could not have felt more looked after!

THE BAR LOUNGE 1861

Everyman's dream bar. My partner was more than happy to find this wonderful wooden french bistro feel bar located near the pool. The hardwood floor, wooden counter, and leather brown seating gave a lovely mixture of man meet elegance. We spent most of our afternoon comfortably sunk into the sofa chairs with a strong whiskey in hand.

During the cold season, you will find the marble-like fireplace lit up to provide some warmth in the cool nights.

RESTAURANTS

If there is one thing I have missed about home, it’s fresh, organic, tasty, picked straight from the garden vegetables. Luckily, their menu boasted exactly of this!

With two beautifully presented restaurants, your sure to find something catering to your taste buds.

La Belle Epoque: This striking elegant restaurant is where we sat for a romantic dinner, enjoying our first delicious meal of buffaloe ragu and enjoyed a taste of home through their mushroom risotto. In the morning we returned for a wonderful large breakfast off the a la carte menu. After an adventurous lunch and dinner the day before, we decided to stick to basics and order the eggs benedict, served with coffee, fresh fruit platters, a bread basket and pastry.

There is no better way to start the day in our opinion than a delicious breakfast, good coffee and a garden view from your table.

Terrasse Des Colonies:  With comfortable seating and a large selection of food and drinks, it is the perfect spot to sit back and enjoy the sunshine before a dip in the pool.

We are not usually too adventurous when it comes to food but we did not hesitate when we saw the frog legs! And although we never planned on eating a frog, it was absolutely delicious.

SWIMMING POOL

Our favourite part of our stay had to be the large stunning infinity pool, dropping off into luscious green tropical gardens, this made for a lovely retreat from the humid Laos heat.  This 20meter pool and large decking with cushioned loungers was pure bliss! Not only were beautiful hand woven fans provided but cold fresh water bottles were promptly brought over with a smile from the friendly staff.

SUMMARY

We absolutely loved our stay at The Luang Say Residence and only wish we had the time to stay longer! This beautiful boutique resort provided a much needed relaxing holiday from the hustle and bustle of our travel lifestyle with their extensive facilities. Not only did the food exceed our expectations but the service was above and beyond fantastic. We highly recommend this luxury stay if you are in need of a lovely retreat.
